WHY DO YOU NEED A RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD?

May 18, 2026 · RELATIONSHIP

Hey pal!

prefer listening instead? CLICK the audio below.

Here’s what i’m learning about why we need a relationship with God:

H O S E A 6:6 (NLT)

I WANT YOU TO SHOW LOVE ,NOT OFFER SACRIFICES. I WANT YOU TO KNOW ME MORE THAN I WANT BURNT OFFERINGS

Have you ever thought that having a relationship with God was a prescription that was given to a specific group of people? The pastors. The elders. The old lady. That good boy and good girl. Or that legalistic boy you cannot win against in bible trivia games because they seem to have all the right answers.

Subconsciously you started to disassociate yourself from having a relationship with God. Now the relationship is more of a give and take. Only that its one sided . You keep taking. Its more like he is the provider and that’s what you know him to be, your provider. So the relationship becomes only transactional.

What if I told you that there is no premium subscription to having a relationship with God. He wants a relationship with you. There is so much of GODDDD. There is so much of who he is that is not limited-only to being a provider.

Why do we need a relationship with GOD?

1. Just like any other relationship, platonic and romantic. A relationship has the ability for you to get to know the other person better.

Think of a person with whom you believe is very much misunderstood . Externals perceive them to be either rude, mean, strict , condescending. OR people assume that person is a sweetheart , shy ,loving, soft, but you get to rebut that belief they have of them because you know them well and you understand things from their point of view. All because you took time to nurture your relationship.

Similarly with God. Getting to know him better means we are cognizant of how he shows up , how he does things and why. While we may not have a direct answer of why he appears mute sometimes and why he seems to not answer our prayers the right way ( by our definition of good),  knowing him better means we have the understanding  that for whatever reason he is withholding a blessing from us or he seems to be delaying it. At the core of it is simply  his  love and protection. And be at peace with that in mind.

Let’s take a look at the following verse

J O B 1:21-22  (NLT)

He said, I came naked from my mother’s womb and I will be naked when I leave. The lord gave me what I had and the Lord has taken it away. Praise the LORD . In all of this , job did not sin by blaming God

WOW. The last part of the above scripture baffles me .Immediately  after losing everything he had ( see job 1:1-5) Job did not ‘blame God.’

A lack of relationship invites unfair assumptions towards GOD. It gives room to a distorted view about who God is. Knowing him means knowing of his love. Job had a relationship with the father. He lost everything and instead of playing the blame game in chapter 1. He understood that for whatever reason the calamities have fallen on him , at the core of it is the Lord’s protection and love . When we know God better, his rules and standards do not come off as harsh .Its just you realizing I’m in relationship with the father and these commandments and the ideal way of living is just a requisite of that relationship.

2. A relationship with God allows you to hear him clearly when he guides you.

God does guide us whether you are intentional about being in a relationship with him or not ,but the difference is , when you are intentional about nurturing your relationship with God, you get to see clearly how each day there are signs and directions of his guidance.

That’s it Pal! Always remember that most preachers ,singers and Christian authors speak based on their personal experiences in their walk with God. While they preach the same Jesus and the principles remains the same, we ought to be careful not to take other people’s testimonies as doctrines ,but a compass pointing us back to him and his word.

Pray with me:
Dear God , thank you for your kindness, your grace and love. I pray asking for the holy spirit to guide my path to you and to help me  make conscious steps in building a relationship with you. help me to see you, to know you so that i can follow you. Amen.
